The party at Blue Stone January 19 and Race 1 January 20

Sugarbush Racing Club news by Ray Bollerud
SRC “CHOMPING AT THE BIT” TO START RACING

Sugarbush Race Club descended on the Blue Stone restaurant with a high degree of excited energy at this week’s social. Like race horses at the gate, they anticipated the start of the racing on Friday. Snow was in the  forecast and began by the time that the gathering was winding down.

The Club President and Vice President were under pressure to deliver the goods…constantly hearing pleas of “when”, “If it ever happens”, “anything you can do about this”. And on Friday morning with the help of the snow gods, the Sugarbush Groomers(bless their heart) , and the Sugarbush Race Department the goods were delivered.

The Blue Stone Resturant contributed greatly to this happening by providing excellent pizza, salads and fine drinks and of course an outstanding staff. The club was very grateful to them for feeding “the beast” before the race.

On Friday the race line up included five new members, Elizabeth Swartz (best in class) and Richard Swartz(bronze) Garrett Bergy (bronze), John Williams (silver) and Jon Rickard (gold).  The venerable Joe Seymour was back having recovered from several injuries over the last year and true to his reputation came in with a gold, a real testimony to spirit and healing. Speed demon Rick Duckworth was again his usual “blur” on the course, the word is out he needs some competition in the coming races.

For many members it was a manner of “shaking out the cobwebs” and getting back in the grove. The course was in excellent shape. And listening in you could hear members discussing times, strategies and techniques.  As always, the racers chatted about “going too wide or to straight or too late !” There was careful examination, along with the disguised envy of new skis on some feet.  All around the good natured camaraderie and friendship of SRC was back on the slope. Our next race is Friday January 27th at 10AM

Next week we meet at the Hyde Away at 4:30 PM
