Winch wins in convincing fashion, Jenks extends winning streak!!
The Sugarbush Racing Club was back at it again on Thursday, January 30 for the 4th race of the 8 race season. After a banner dayJanuary 23, Rick Duckworth was riding high going into the 5th race with a comfortable lead in the points as the season reached the halfway mark. Nine women and 21 men came out to challenge Jenks and Duckworth for top honors but, after Duckworth’s speed last week, not many men had hopes of victory.
Riley “Spaceman” Winch has been having inconsistent results all season long on new equipment and he made the change back to last seasons setup in an attempt to close the gap between him and Duckworth. The change paid off with Winch winning both runs on the Racer’s Edge course. We had a chat with the victor after the race and he told us his thoughts. “The racing was amazing today, perfect weather and stiff competition.
I think we should keep an eye on Doug Day for the rest of the season because he’s coming on strong.” Day finished 3rd again, but he is obviously motivated and capable of taking another race win before long. Marc Angelillo, Dave Seymour, John Lussier, Peter Wicklund and William Nye have been trading places only seconds behind Doug Day.
In the women’s division Laura Jenks continued her authoritarian rule over the rest of the field. When the dust settled Jenks walked away with her 4th victory of the season, fueling speculation of a possible perfect season. “It’s been a great season, I’m so happy to be involved,” she said after the race. Cheryl Brayman took 2nd in the race and Gail Webster found herself in 3rd. Behind the top 3 the women’s field is deep and we are looking forward to others moving up as the season is completed.
The Hyde Away hosted an amazing after race party with delicious hors d’oeuvres and great drinks! Thanks to Ana and the whole crew for putting on a great get together! The racing is amazing this season and there are close contests every week, come on out for a piece of the action!
