Duckworth returns to the top of the podium

The Sugarbush Racing Club met on Thursday, January 23 for a double header on the expertly prepared Racer’s Edge course.  Conditions were ideal for racing with the temperature hovering in the high 20’s and perfect snow conditions all day long.  34 racers were in attendance and speeds were high for everyone, but the end of the day witnessed the return of former champion Rick Duckworth to the top of the mens leaderboard in both races.  “My skis were singing,” the winner told this reporter after the race.  “Big thanks to Mountainside Ski Service for a race winning tune!”
Duckworth swapped winning runs with Riley “Spaceman” Winch in the first race, eventually beating him by a half second over two runs.  In the second race Duckworth put on a clinic for the rest of the field, winning by a convincing .8 seconds.  Doug Day rounded out the top 3 with a brace of strong runs in each race.
In the women’s division Laura Jenks won both races with 4 runs that each would have put the mens field on notice.  Cindy Carr put in some fast runs for 2nd place, and she definitely needed them because Mary Carol White, who finished 3rd, has looked ready for battle all season long.
Last weeks after party was hosted by The Reks and the Sugarbush Racing Club thanks our hosts for the amazing party.
This signals the start of what is sure to be a no hold barred battle for racing glory over the rest of the 2020 race calendar.  If there are any racers, ex racers, or racing enthusiasts out there, this is the season to compete.  All the action is on film thanks to Chelsea Winch who captured 34 minutes of excellent video during both races. It be viewed can be caught on MRVTV or at Races 2 & 3 video
