Sugarbush Racing Club holds Annual Kickoff Party

The Sugarbush Racing Club held its annual Kick-Off Party at Sugarbush’s Castlerock Pub on Sunday, December 11th. New and current members gathered for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and to hear Wheaton Simis, Club President, and other board members speak about the racing season, discount offers for club members through Sugarbush Resort and the social events for the year. Also, Win Smith, Sugarbush President, talked about the upcoming ski season, improvements at the mountain and our great start with over 100″ of snowfall so far, with more predicted before the holidays.

The membership committee was pleased to announce that 117 members have signed up thus far, including 14 new members. The Club will hold eight races during the 2017 season, beginning Thursday, January 5th. The weekly races will run through early March, and a “slip clinic” will be held in advance of each race. The Club will also host four racing clinics for members that will also be open to the public for an additional fee. The clinics are scheduled for January 4th — Beginner/New Racer Clinic, January 11th — Advanced Clinic, January 20th — General/Open Clinic, and January 27th — Women’s Clinic. One of the highlights of the season is the annual John Wilson Memorial Race on the Spring Fling Legends course in February. The race is dedicated to past president, John Wilson, who passed away in the summer of 2015.

Après-race parties are hosted every Thursday by different restaurants throughout the Valley. Special events include a Wine Tasting Party at the Tucker Hill Inn on January 10th, a Winter Interlude Potluck and Dinner Dance at Terra Rossa on February 7th, and our End of Year Banquet on March 23rd at the Inn at the Round Barn. The Club also sponsors summer and early fall activities including a golf outing and a barbecue.

The Club is a friendly, fun organization that welcomes all levels of racers as well as social members.
