Cold weather stops race club in its first tracks

The Sugarbush Racing Club board of directors decided to postpone the first race of the season due to the frigid temperatures last Thursday and will attempt to conduct two races this week. However, over half of the 140 member club braved the elements to attend the apres race party held at the Big Picture Theater! Asah Rowles and her staff outdid themselves with more than sumptuous hors d’oeuvres in a wonderful venue allowing members to mingle , tell stories of races past and greet the twenty-five new members. Barbara Brady won the coveted gift basket created by Deb Koch and John Wilson was the lucky winner of the 50 -50 raffle to support the Vermont Adaptive ski program.

Club president, Manny Apigian, and race chairperson, Laurie Landau, expressed their hope that the rest of the eight race series will not encounter any further complications. Races are held Thursdays starting at 10 AM weather permitting but there will always be a party.

Racing is not the only activity enjoyed by the club in the winter. Over twenty members journeyed to Northfield on Friday to watch the Norwich Cadet hockey team trounce the UMASS-Boston Beacons. Hockey expert and club cheerleader, Loretta Menkes and Barbara Christiano led the entire audience in waves! (photo in Gallery)

Also, a diner dance at the Terra Rossa Restaurant is another activity already planned by social chairperson, Deb Koch. Golf tournaments and cook outs are planned for the summer.

New members are welcome to join for racing on Thursdays and/or the party held this week at Chez Henri.
