SRC Race Season Starts Jan 8

After a successful kick-off party, Club members are gearing up for the first race of the year on Thursday, January 8th. Races are held each week from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM throughout the year. The course will be on Racer’s Edge with exclusive use for members. A feature race on the famed Legends Course on Spring Fling is also planned. Each race is followed by a post-race party at a local restaurant.

All Sugarbush skiers are invited to join the fun – especially the many new Boomer pass holders. You don’t have to be an experienced racer to get in the action. The only requirement is that you be over 18. Skiers and boarders are welcome.

Several race clinics run by Sugarbush’s Ski and Ride School are planned. Separate classes for beginners, woman only and experienced races will be held on a closed slope. The first clinic for beginners was held on December 22.

Leading racers back on the course will be Champions Rick Duckworth and Elizabeth WalkerDoug Day, a second year racer is returning and will challenge a host of regulars. Third-year racer Colleen Winchester should be back to work her way up the ladder of female leaders. New to the Club, Danielle Hampton is expected to make a serious run at the leaders.

Rich Jones always a familiar face on the course, will add another season to the many he has raced. Henri Borel, our oldest racer, will be on the course amazing everyone and Al Hobart will continue to frustrate many younger racers by being just a little faster than them. As always, senior phenom Bob Stevens will be back.

Missing from action this year will be up and coming Anne Halvorsen, who is on the disabled list, possibly due to too many years of bumps at MRG, and also Diana Edwards. We’re hoping Loretta Menkes and Barbara Brady will be back from last year’s medical sidelines.

Prospective members can visit the Club’s website WWW.SUGARBUSHRACINGCLUB.COM for more information or to join on line. Visitors can race once without joining. Club representatives will be in the Gate House the morning of the race to answer questions and collect race fees.
