Sugarbush Racing Club revs up for 2014

1017The Sugarbush Racing Club is rising, phoenix-like, from it’s own ashes. After a year’s hiatus due to many factors, the club has revitalized itself under new leadership and direction. The weather gods smiled upon two fair weather meetings orchestrated by social chairperson, Deb Koch, which indicated strong interest in resurrecting the club.

During the latest gathering with over 65 in attendance held in the wonderful Columbus Day sunshine at the Koch’s Common Road home, new president, Manny Apigian, and race chairperson, Lauri Landau, addressed the club’s racing future. Eight races are to be held on Thursdays on both the challenging Legends Arena on Spring Fling and the technically demanding course on Racer’s Edge. Sugarbush Race Director, Danielle Hampton, and her crew will set a dual giant slalom course as conditions allow. Each race will, of course, be consummated with a party at a local watering hole complete with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Race results and bragging rights will be reviewed and videos of the race and individual racers will be studied all of which add to the merriment.

The club membership includes affiliation with NASTAR and, therefore, registers the member on NASTAR results and offers the possibility of competing on a national level.

These “ski bum” races are intended for all levels from the lycra-clad semi-pro to the “maybe I’ll try it” ordinary joe. Some members of the club have never raced nor do they ever intend to. Social membership is a good thing too!!

The first informational meeting designed also to register members will be held at the CastleRock Pub at 4:30 on Sunday, December 15. The club is hoping to recruit racers and non-racers alike and all are welcome.
